Early Wheels is an student group that is working with Margaret Scholl, a physical therapist, to help kids with cerebral palsy. Research has shown a correlation between children’s control over movement and their cognitive development. This inspired Margaret’s mission to give the kids she works with a chance to mobilize themselves, which will in turn help them to better learn and discover the world and will aid in their cognitive childhood development. Additionally, observing how individual children react to these vehicles could provide insight into deciding which of them might benefit from having a certain wheelchairs, an analysis process that currently takes excessive amounts of time and money. Our goal as a team is to create this system that will allow a parent, with no technical skills, to assemble a vehicle that is operable by their child and meets the needs of their child with cerebral palsy.
